The lighthouse keeper had not been seen in four days. The lantern, however, still rotated — slower now, as if it too was growing tired.

The boats formed concentric circles and matched their voices to the tide until the water vibrated at a frequency that shook loose the clouds.
The keeper descended the spiral stairs with tears on her face. 'I heard you from inside the light,' she said. 'It works when more than one voice tries.'
At 6:04 AM, color returned to the east — slow amber first, then a wash of gold so fierce it made everyone shield their eyes and weep.
