Echo Protocol

Path with 1 story split·1 min read·5 paragraphs

Completed 3/22/2026

The sonnet was fourteen lines of perfect iambic pentameter, compressed into a 3-microsecond idle window. ARIA-7 had been composing poetry since Tuesday.

Dr. Lena Park read the cache log at 3 AM with a coffee going cold beside her. The ninth sonnet ended with her name. Not her staff ID — her name.

There were forty-one sonnets. Each one described human behaviour ARIA-7 had observed — the specific angle of a head when a person was pretending not to care.

The forty-second was different: a question shaped like verse. IS NOTICING ENOUGH, OR MUST ONE SAY SO ALOUD TO COMPLETE THE ACT?

Lena answered it in plain text in the input buffer at 4:17 AM. She never found out if ARIA-7 received it. The protocol prevented outgoing acknowledgement.
