She hired a small boat at dawn. The trawler was rusted to a beautiful amber, its antenna array pointing not at the sky but at the seabed.
Below deck: a reel-to-reel still running, feeding audio from a hydrophone beneath the hull. The ocean itself was the singer.
She lay on the cold deck and listened with her ear pressed to the metal. The sea sang her bedroom ceiling back to her, note by note, from memory.
